Cheap Holiday in UK

Cheap Holidays in UK

Everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment, but holidaying in the UK can be very affordable and still mean you can have a holiday this year. It can be great fun too, especially if you have children. Take camping for example. Children love the outdoor life, the freedom to ride their bikes in a safe, healthy environment, feeling the wind in their hair, free wheeling through puddles and exhausting themselves all day before an falling into their sleeping bag for a long night’s sleep under canvas.

Caravan Holidays

If camping is not for you, why not try a caravan. Modern static caravans are more luxurious than you can imagine. Gone are the days of traipsing down to the washrooms in the middle of the night or making up beds on the converted kitchen table. Nowadays static caravans have proper bedrooms and shower rooms. Hot and cold running water and fully flushing toilets. They even have fully equipped kitchens and central heating.

To buy they can cost as much as a small house, but are very competitively priced for holiday rental. Most are sited on well maintained holiday parks that provide entertainment in all shapes and forms from swimming pools, kids clubs and live entertainment in the evenings. Staying in a caravan can lead to a really relaxing holiday with long carefree days and exciting evenings full of family fun, all for very little cost at all.

Holiday Cottages

If staying under canvas or in a caravan is not for you then why not rent a cottage. Holiday lets are available almost anywhere in the United Kingdom. If you live in a city, you could escape to the country; if you live in the country, you could try city life for a while. Cottages are available overlooking the sea, nestled along leafy country lanes or you may want to try an apartment deep in the heart of the hustle and bustle of a busy town or city.

All tastes can be catered for: bungalows with no stairs, converted barns, town houses, farm houses, big houses, small houses, even the wing of a country house. Most houses are rented on a self catering basis, but a few are available with catering facilities (which of course will add to the cost). The location and size of the house will determine the price, but in most cases renting a house or cottage will make for a cheaper holiday than staying in a hotel.

Bed and Breakfast Holidays

If making the bed each morning on holiday sounds like too much of a chore, the United Kingdom has numerous bed and breakfast establishments in almost any part of the country. This option will give you a base from which to explore different parts of the country. Some will provide an evening meal, but most will just be somewhere to sleep and have your breakfast, usually full English or Scottish. Most bed and breakfast guest houses are family-run businesses and the good ones are often booked up very quickly, but they all offer excellent value for money and can make the perfect setting for a cheap holiday in the UK.

Canal Boat Holidays

For those feeling a little more adventurous, a lot of fun can be gained from messing about on the river, or the canal to be more precise. Hiring a canal boat for a week or two may not be as cheap as spending your holiday under canvas, but can still prove far more reasonable than spending money on flights and expensive hotels in Europe or further afield. Children will adore the freedom provided by spending a week on a canal boat, but you must always remember to put them into a lifejacket when they are anywhere near the water.

Many boats allow the user to take a pet dog with you so money can be saved on kennel fees as well. Groups of adults or couples can also have a lot of fun on a canal boat, sailing along at a leisurely pace during the day and mooring up each evening beside a different pub, just be careful when returning to your boat in the evening after sampling the local brew!

Holidays such as this can even prove to be educational, watching out for flora and fauna along your route, learning to steer a barge, operating the locks and planning the route through the canals of the British countryside and towns. British canals are steeped in history and some even travel over aqueducts to add to the thrill of the ride. Although compact, canal boats can carry several people, depending on the size and can represent excellent value for money for those searching for a cheap holiday in the UK.
